From where is the ferry to Borkum?

An insular North Sea vacation actually begins not with the arrival on the desired island, but already when the guest approaches his destination on the ferry over sea. So also with a Vacation on Borkum. Although the westernmost of the major East Frisian Islands can also be reached by plane, but the vast majority of visitors come by ferry. There are two regular ferry connections between Borkum and the mainland.

On the German side, car and passenger ferries as well as catamarans regularly depart from Emden's outer harbor in the direction of Borkum's southern tip (Borkum ferry). A major plus of Emden's ferry port is its direct connection to rail-bound passenger transport through its own train station. For the 43 kilometers from Emden through Dollart and North Sea the conventional ferries need about two hours. With the catamaran, the trip takes only half this time.

As an alternative, the directly at the North SeaThe Dutch ferry port of Eemshaven is located 30 km northwest of Groningen. From here it is only about 20 kilometers to Borkum. Accordingly, in favorable weather conditions, the ferry here takes less than an hour (catamaran 30 minutes).
