North Sea island Spiekeroog

Stress and hectic are real foreign words on the North Sea island of Spiekeroog, as time seems to stand still here. Spiekeroog primarily stands for seclusion, so it is perfect for friends of idyllic vacations. Characteristic of the landscape in the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park is the enormously large tree population, which provides the perfect setting for numerous campsites. It is a secluded oasis in the North Sea where time seems to stand still. The island is home to the last remaining horse-drawn railroad in Germany and is a beautiful scenic sight.

East Frisian island

North Sea island Langeoog

If you are in the mood for relaxation and tranquility, then the long island Langeoog is exactly the right vacation destination. Of course, the recreational approach is not neglected and if you are big animal lovers, you should direct your steps to "Osterhook" to observe seals as well as adult seals in the wild. On clear days, you will also be able to spot the neighboring islands of Spiekeroog and Baltrum with binoculars.

East Frisian island

North Sea island Baltrum

Of all the islands of the North Sea, Baltrum, located midway between Norderney and Langeoog, is the smallest of the East Frisian islands. Idyll and tranquility await the visitor, as neither cars nor bicycles are to be found. If you want to gain a lot of distance from the sometimes stressful everyday life during your vacation at the North Sea, then the island is exactly the right choice. In terms of its basic nature, it, which according to legend owes its name to a play on words "Bald rum" as a small allusion to the small size of the island, is comparable to a village. In fact, there are only 500 inhabitants and everything from the dune landscape to small shopping facilities can be reached very easily on foot. Extensive walks in the fresh North Sea air in a typical Nordic dune landscape are thus part of the agenda of every Baltrum visitor. It is also remarkable that there are no street names. The houses of the inhabitants are numbered according to their age on Baltrum, which the visitor should definitely know.

East Frisian island

North Sea island Norderney

If yes, then you will surely appreciate the beauty of this idyllic place and vividly remember a dream vacation on the North Sea. Juist is considered a real jewel of the German North Sea and has the reputation of having the longest sandbank in the whole world. Since it is completely car-free, you will be able to enjoy the unique flair of the German Nordic Sea up close. You will appreciate the much famous stiff breeze, which has Borkum as a neighbor to its west, because the gorgeous white sandy beach is rarely crowded with people even in the summer months. Mudflat walks in the Töwerland are among the real highlights on Juist, so that both small and large North Sea vacationers can have fun.

East Frisian island

North Sea island Borkum

Of all the East Frisian islands, Borkum is certainly the resort with the most extremes. On the one hand, it is the most westerly and thus the furthest away from the mainland, and on the other hand, it is the largest island of all inhabited North Sea islands. It can also offer extremes in recreational activities. In addition to extreme recreation, Borkum also offers a lot of action, so it is especially popular with young visitors. Bathing, cycling and kite surfing as well as soccer are wonderfully possible on Borkum and the whole leisure fun is directly reinforced by the fresh North Sea air. Of course, extensive dune landscapes may not be missing, so that even recreation seekers come here fully at their expense. The island is known for its miles of sandy beaches, dunes and forests. The ferry crossing from Emden to Borkum takes a good two hours. During the trip, visitors can slowly get used to the island and its climate. After all, apart from Helgoland, Borkum is the only German island with a high-seas climate and thus air low in pollen and iodine. The island is a popular destination for those who want to escape the pollen and allergies of the mainland climate.

North Frisian Islands

North Sea island Amrum

The relatively small island of Amrum, which is located south of the more famous island of Sylt and west of Föhr, enjoys an excellent reputation for its white sandy beaches. The dreamlike beach literally nestles along the entire coast and invites you to relax in a beach chair as well as to build sand castles. Like hardly any other island in the entire German Bight, Amrum is considered the epitome of recreation and relaxation. On beautiful summer days, Amrum is synonymous with the veritable picture book North Sea vacation.

North Frisian Islands

North Sea island Föhr

When you hear the name "the green island", you will most likely think of Ireland in the first place. This may be true, but Germany also has a green island to offer with Föhr. Geographically located right behind Amrum as well as Sylt, Föhr is a true natural paradise with a diverse appearance. The nickname for the vacation spot "the Frisian Caribbean" is very appropriately chosen, as there are beautiful green landscapes as well as gorgeous sandy beaches to discover. Mild temperatures as well as a relatively mild North Sea wind ensure that relaxing on the beach is perfectly possible and that other leisure activities such as mudflat walks as well as collecting shells can be carried out in a wonderfully relaxed manner. Moreover, Föhr offers its visitors exciting special events every year, which are extremely interesting for both large and small islanders. Föhr is therefore also a perfect North Sea vacation for families.

North Frisian Islands

North Sea island Sylt

Sylt is by far the most famous of all North Sea islands and is often referred to as the German "Côte d'Azur". Considered the home of the rich and beautiful, Sylt has something to offer every visitor. Of course, a stay is not exactly the cheapest vacation, but there are numerous shopping opportunities as well as the much famous touch of exclusivity. From sports activities to party locations, you will find everything your heart desires. Anyone who has been here once will be able to understand the German band "Die Ärzte" when they say that they want to return to Westerland out of sheer longing. With its timelessly beautiful dune landscape, however, Sylt also invites nature lovers to take long walks. If you haven't been here yet, then it's really time to pay a visit to the largest North Sea island.

North Frisian Islands

North Sea island Heligoland

Helgoland is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the North Sea, as it is the only high sea island in Germany. On it, the effects of unique natural spectacles can still be vividly marveled at, as Helgoland was once a single island and now consists of two parts. The main island is the most popular vacation destination par excellence, while the side island called Düne is rather a small pearl of the North Sea. If you are strongly connected to nature and want to admire the vibrant wildlife of the North Sea in the wild, then Helgoland is for you. With its large occurrence of seals on the sandbanks as well as countless different species of birds, you will be offered many interesting sights. Helgoland is the only one of the North Sea islands that offers you the chance to admire cute baby seals in their natural environment and for this reason alone it is worth a trip.

North Frisian Islands

Pellworm

Of all the islands in the North Sea, Pellworm falls a little out of the classic cliché, as it has predominantly green pastures and meadows to offer instead of sandy beaches. That is why it is also called the little Ireland. This is the right place for you if peace and quiet are more important to you than action. The many green meadows are of course also home to cows and sheep, so you can experience a classic Ireland vacation without having to get on a plane. As the third largest North Frisian island, Pellworm offers a feeling of freedom that is very rare among all islands.

North Frisian Islands

North Sea spa Nordstrand

Nordstrand is a beautiful peninsula located west of the North Frisian district town of Husum. The peninsula is quite easy to reach via a four-kilometer-long causeway that starts north of Schobüll. Nordstrand offers its visitors a lot of peace, nature and numerous opportunities to exercise in the fresh air. The peninsula is surrounded by the Wadden Sea and invites you to relax and enjoy nature. The resort is an excellent place for swimming, provided that the North Sea is there. The extensive sunbathing area on the green dike is very popular with visitors, who share it with the sheep. For those who shy away from the proximity of the dyke dwellers, there are closed-off areas at some bathing spots.
