How to get there

Journey to Norderney

Arrival by car

If you arrive with your own car, you can organize your vacation trip individually and flexibly. On the island, however, most visitors will not need a vehicle, as the place is best explored on foot or with the help of a bicycle.

Most travelers come by car via the A 31 to the Emden-Nord exit and then via the B 210 and the B 7 to Norddeich. This is by far the most common way of getting to the ferry terminal.

If you take your car to the Ferry Norderney you want to take, you must reserve the parking space for the return journey in advance

Arrival with the Deutsche Bahn:

The train will come to a stop in Norddeich-Mole just in front of the ferry terminal. This will happen after arrival at the destination, with Norderney on the right and Juist is on the left side. The DB ticket entitles you to travel on various routes of the entire connection, so also to travel on the ferry. Always carry your ship ticket with you, because it also serves as a NorderneyCard.

Is the ferry ticket also a guest card or the NorderneyCard ?

The NorderneyCard is a spa card. It combines the functions of a ferry ticket and a spa card in one convenient package. You will receive a receipt when you buy your ferry ticket at the ticket office in Norddeich. Keep this receipt safe, because you will need it in case you lose your NorderneyCard or if you have your NorderneyCard personalized in advance.

The ferry tickets are also valid as a Norderney guest card. This is sold by Norderney GmbH. The guest card can be used both on the ferry and on the island of Norderney. Among other things, the combination of ferry ticket and beach chair rental in one transaction is possible at the beach chair rental on Norderney's west beach.

History of Norden Frisia shipping company

Year 1871 - The Norden-Frisia shipping company was founded in July 1871 and is a joint stock company based on the island of Norderney. It has always been based on Norderney. Since its foundation, it has offered daily ship connections to Norderney, Langeoog and Spiekeroog an. Also the Islands Baltrum and Juist are regularly visited by our own fleet of ships.

The year 1894 - The completion of the landing stage on Juist created an important infrastructure for the island. The bridge was made entirely of wood. It offered the islanders a safe way to moor their boats. Since the island is only accessible by boat, this was of great importance to Juist. The mooring bridge will greatly improve the quality of life for the islanders, as they will no longer have to worry about their boats coming loose from their moorings in bad weather.

Year 1917: The boom in ferry traffic has its roots in the beginnings of maritime trade and travel. Various companies competed for ferry service in the early days of shipping. However, AG Reederei Norden-Frisia was able to take the lead in the industry in 1917. It has held this position until today. During the Second World War, when many ships were sunk or otherwise rendered useless, the ferry industry suffered a severe blow. As a result, ferry operations were temporarily taken over by Great Britain.

In 194, the Norden-Frisia shipping company was finally able to operate again without outside assistance. Thus, normal operations returned. At this time, the British also took over the transport of cars. This was the birth of the need to ensure that this would be possible in the future. This need arose directly from the fact that at that time the British transported cars by sea.

1960: The idea that you should be able to take your car to Norderney caught on in the early 1960s. In 1962 this was implemented and since then you can have your car brought to Norderney by ferry. For a short time - in 1969 - the shipping company even offered a flight service, but this was outsourced to Reederei Frisia just one year after the service was discontinued.

Year 2002 - Since 2002, a ferry with two entrances and exits has been operating between Norddeich and Norderney. The crossings are much faster than before. This is because it is no longer necessary to turn around on the way back: The ferry can simply dock in both directions. This results in a significant increase in the efficiency of the crossing and is much faster for passengers.

The Frisia company was founded in the second half of the 19th century and initially focused on the maritime sector. Over time, the services were extended to a number of companies and organizations. Today, the Frisia Group employs around 280 people. Of these, 180 are employed by AG Reederei Norden-Frisia. The company's growth has played a major role in creating new jobs and thus strengthening the economy in the region.

Frisia is a company that still operates in the traditional way: It serves the needs of the islanders. To this end, it operates a fleet of twelve ships that can carry both passengers and cargo. It offers a year-round scheduled service from Norddeich to the Islands Norderney and Juist. The company also operates the parking facilities in Norddeich and offers other services. These are used for a wide range of tasks. This makes Frisia a very versatile and useful company that the residents of the islands have relied on over the years.

The Norden-Frisia shipping company has shareholdings in a number of companies. Looking at the indirect shareholdings, the network consists of around twenty companies. These are predominantly active in the East Frisia region. In some cases, these companies are also active in other regions.
